HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (September 24, 2008) – For the first time, the Florida Gaming Summit will explore the issue of responsible gaming in a special session at the fourth annual event, October 6-7 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino here. As the high-profile expansion of gaming in Florida continues under the watchful eyes of politicians, regulators, critics and other interested stakeholders, an important consideration has been the potential social impacts on communities and citizens.
“One of the hot-button issues in any expanding gaming jurisdiction is problem gambling, and legislators and local officials are increasingly demanding that the industry take steps to minimize potential problems,” said Charles Anderer, Group Publisher, Gaming, for BNP Media, co-producer of the conference along with Spectrum Gaming Group. “The gaming industry has made great strides when it comes to promoting responsibility, and our panel will explore what measures are being taken in Florida as the industry grows.”
The session includes Pat Fowler, Executive Director of the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling, who will provide an overview of the Council’s efforts to assist the gaming industry in the development and implementation of responsible gaming programs. Also on the panel are representatives from two gaming operators – John Fontana, President of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa, and Daren Nenortas, Training Manager for The Isle Casino and Racing at Pompano Park. They will explain the programs and initiatives in place at their facilities and where they are headed.
In all, some two dozen expert speakers are confirmed for the Summit, and they will address additional topics such as tribal gaming, the performance and potential of parimutuel casinos, the legislative outlook for gaming, the view from Wall Street and gaming and leisure trends. Keynote speakers include James F. Allen, Chief Executive Officer, Gaming Operations, for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and Steven A. Geller, a Florida State Senator who is instrumental in shaping the state’s gaming policy.
Hundreds of attendees are expected to attend this popular event, including gaming operators, regulators, investors, tribal gaming leaders, attorneys, architects, vendors and other industry-related professionals.
