Racetrack slots and poker examined at Florida Gaming Summit
Hollywood, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2010) – With 27 pari-mutuel facilities scattered around the state, Florida’s racetracks and jai-alai frontons dominate the landscape from the panhandle to Miami and have contributed to state and local economies for decades. Currently, 23 of these facilities have card rooms with a variety of poker games while five offer slot machines. Both forms of gaming will be among the topics explored at the sixth annual Florida Gaming Summit, which takes place October 18-19 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino here.
“No other state has such a widespread base of pari-mutuel activity, and the addition of poker more than a decade ago has played an important role in keeping most of these facilities as vibrant members of the economy,” said Charles Anderer, Group Publisher, Gaming, for BNP Media, co-producer of the conference along with Spectrum Gaming Group. “And in South Florida, the addition of slot machines four years ago was a significant milestone in Florida gaming.”
Poker and racetrack slots will be discussed in separate sessions at the Summit, which also includes sessions on the social and economic impacts of gaming, tribal gaming, and a review of industry performance from the Wall Street perspective.
The Summit annually attracts hundreds of gaming executives, regulators, public officials, investors, attorneys, analysts, architects and vendors from Florida and beyond. For the second consecutive year, the City of Hollywood, the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the law firm of Becker & Poliakoff P.A. have signed on as presenting sponsors, recognizing the importance of the Summit and of gaming to the local economy.
Three notable featured speakers headline the Summit. Attorney Alan Koslow, serving as President of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will welcome attendees at the opening cocktail reception. The ever-popular and eloquent Jim Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Gaming Operations for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, will provide the morning keynote address at 8:30 a.m. on October 19. Delivering the luncheon keynote later that day will be Bill Galvano, representing District 68 in the Florida House of Representatives.
