Florida Gaming Summit to examine industry’s social and economic impacts

Hollywood, Fla. (October 14, 2010) – The social and economic challenges of a growing gaming environment will be discussed in an important session at the sixth annual Florida Gaming Summit, October 18-19 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino here. With the addition of slot machines in the South Florida market and the expansion of gaming at tribal casinos, Florida has emerged as one of the country’s highest-growth gaming jurisdictions over the last decade.

“There have been numerous benefits of expanded gaming in Florida, from the revenues generated for government programs to the creation of jobs and new business,” said Charles Anderer, Group Publisher, Gaming, for BNP Media, co-producer of the conference along with Spectrum Gaming Group. “Still, there are challenges that every community must face, from traffic and local services to social issues such as problem gambling.”

To address these issues, a diverse group of speakers will assemble at the Summit on Tuesday, October 19. Anderer will be moderating the panel which includes Joy Cooper, Mayor of the City of Hallandale Beach; Pat Fowler, Executive Director of the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling; Tom Hall, a transportation planning consultant; and Mac Seelig, Founder and President of AC Coin & Slot.

They are part of an outstanding overall speaker lineup at the Summit, which includes three keynote speakers. Attorney Alan Koslow, serving as President of the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will welcome attendees at the opening cocktail reception on October 18. The ever-popular and eloquent Jim Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Gaming Operations for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, will provide the morning keynote address at 8:30 a.m. on October 19. Delivering the luncheon keynote later that day will be Bill Galvano, representing District 68 in the Florida House of Representatives.

For the second consecutive year, the City of Hollywood, the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the law firm of Becker & Poliakoff P.A. have signed on as presenting sponsors, recognizing the importance of the Summit and of gaming to the local economy.
